Inside the app

Margin stores notes, scratchpads, bookmarks, and reading positions locally on your Mac. It references PDFs at their original locations. Reading and writing features do not require a Margin account or send your textbook content to a Margin server.

On this website

This site is hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes connection information such as IP addresses and request metadata to deliver and secure the site.

This website uses PostHog for basic page-view counts and referring-site statistics. It does not set analytics cookies, store visitor identifiers in your browser, record sessions, create heatmaps, or collect text you type in the demos.

Our server sends PostHog the public page address and referring domain. We disable location enrichment and use a fixed placeholder for the analytics IP field. Each view gets a fresh random event identifier; we do not link your visits or build a visitor profile. URL queries and fragments are excluded, and only the referring domain is included.

We respect Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals, and continue to honor a previously saved choice to decline analytics. This applies only to the website, not to your books or notes in the Mac app. Cloudflare and PostHog may process technical connection information to operate and secure their services. Purchases

Checkout and app delivery are handled by Lemon Squeezy. Lemon Squeezy processes information needed for the transaction, including billing and payment details. Payment card entry happens on its checkout. See Lemon Squeezy’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy for their processing practices.

Your files and backups

You control local workspace files and exported backups. If you place them in a folder synchronized by another service, that service’s settings and policies apply.
